Tony Roots races at Irwindale
2008 CAMSO V8 runner up Tony Roots competed in a Late Model race at Irwindale Speedway late in the second half of last season. The Englishman reported that he had a great time mixing it up with the Yanks on their own turf. Roots used a car provided by the local race school to enter the race and, despite handling problems described by Roots as “A push of biblical proportions!” he still managed to place the car on the lead lap. Roots implied he will be putting the knowledge the experience provided him to good use in the coming CAMSO V8 season.
Raptors Dakar
The Raptor Racing team took part in the Dakar Rally. Jos Jansen retired early but Kurt Dujardyn   and Anton Gonnissen went on to complete the event finishing 11th and 12th respectively in the Quad class. They were not the only stockcar drivers there, NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Robby Gordon took third position in the car class in a Hummer.
2009 Could be battle of the tyres
CAMSO have announced the introduction of a new tyre to CAMSO V8. American Racer is the tyre currently used in the UK Sprint championship and, in 2009, a Late Model version will be allowed to go head to head against the Hoosier 3035 tyre currently used in CAMSO V8. The tyre war has already begun with the American Racer tyre coming in at €100, a fair chunk cheaper than the equivalent Hoosier. Race Tires of America who produce the American Racer believe the tyre is more than capable of giving the 3035 a run for its money on the track too. As the 2009 season rolls ever closer, it will be interesting to see who sticks with Hoosier and who moves to the new kid on the block. With tyre management ever critical in stockcar racing, the decision could decide the 2009 champion.
CAMSO V8 could still return to Lydden.
Although it seems highly unlikely at the moment, it is still a step closer than it was at the end of 2008. A breakthrough appears to have been made regarding an MSA rule that stopped Stockcars operating within a FIA MSA program. The changing of this rule would allow the CAMSO V8s to run within a long track program at Lydden or Mallory Park. Although still a long way off, it is a step in the right direction for the U.K fans.
SS Collins returns for test.
Sam Collins plans to have one more test session in the Roots V8 Racing Ford Fusion before committing to a full schedule of CAMSO V8 races. Collins, the editor of Stockcar Engineering, passed his Rookie Training for CAMSO V8 in 2008. Unfortunately, work commitments (including testing a NASCAR Craftsman Truck racer!) scuppered his plans to enter in 2008 but he believes he will be ready for the 2009 season. Collins already has a long list of NASCAR suppliers in the wings to assist with his CAMSO V8 debut. CamsoV8Fanzine believe he will be taking on the #3 Ford Fusion that he has been testing in 2008 despite rumours of a Toyota Camry on the horizon.
