THE BEGINNERS' GUIDE TO CAMSO V8
Got a question for the Beginners guide? Email us, and we will post your question and answer. Just click here!
What is CAMSO V8?
Well, if you lived in America it would be called "Latemodel Stockcars" Its like a short track version of NASCAR. Late Model racing is used as one of many feeder series to the Nextel cup, the worlds premier stock car series. When ASCAR anounced it was going to bring nascar type racing to Europe, and told the world how much it would cost, the world had to sit down with a stiff drink! CAMSO knew they could import the more readily available Late Model cars much cheaper. So they did. Now, in England the Ascardaysofthunderscsav8trophy is having a hard time of it but CAMSO V8 has steadily grown into what is fast becoming a major International championship with a very International driver line up.
What do the flags mean?
Green means GO! The green flag marks the start of the race or the restarting of the race after a caution period.
Yellow means CAUTION! When there has been an accident or a race official can see some debris on the race track, a yellow flag will be waved. Yellow lights will flash on around the race track and the race cars will slow down to a walking pace. When the debris/acccident is cleared the green flag will be shown to restart the race!
Red means STOP!! If an accident is blocking the race track or if a driver is injured and cannot be removed from his race car without assistance, the race is stopped with the red flag. All race cars will slow down and come to a halt.
The blue flag is waved at a driver who is about to go a lap down. It tells the driver that faster cars are coming up behind him (or her) and he should hold his racing line until they are safely past.
The black flag is shown to a driver how has either broken the rules (like crashing in to some one on purpose) or has a mechanical problem with thier car that they may not be aware of (like a fuel leak) Either way the black flag disqualifys the car and driver from the race. The driver must return to the pits and speak to a CAMSO official.
The National flag of Belgium is shown when the race is half way through so the drivers know how many laps are left.
The white flag means FINAL LAP!! The drivers have one more lap of the curcuit before the race finishes!
The chequered flag means RACE OVER! When you see this sight the race is officially over. The winner goes to victory lane and the rest have to think about what could have been.
How are the championship points worked out?
The points are awarded for finishing positions in the heats and the finals. The winner gets 16 points, second gets 15 and so on down to last place. Every driver that starts a race will get points even if they don't finish.

The driver that is leading at half distance (so in a 30 lap race, the driver that is leading on lap 15) gets a two point bonus. The driver that leads the most laps during a race also gets a two point bonus.

Points can also be deducted for bad driving.
How much does a CAMSO V8 cost?
In Great British Pounds!

New Car Price: £19,500.00
(ready to race including a new set of tyres, but unpainted)

Previously owned race cars are available - prices ranging from £13,000 to £17,500.
Do you have to use Lefthander chassis?
Not at all! You can use any chassis you wish. Second hand ASCARs are going cheap at the moment or you could go to the U.S.A and bring back one of the many new or second-hand Late model Stockcars that are available. Email us if you require some help.
